A Tip On Identifying Sterling Silver
A little tip to help identify whether an item is Sterling Silver or not (it is difficult to differentiate between good quality Silver Plated items and Sterling Silver without seeing the hallmarks). Does the piece's hallmarks include a Lion Passant (a lion with raised front legs). If the set of hallmarks does not include this then it is not Sterling Silver; it may be silver plate or it may be 'white metal',ie non-UK silver, probably European where precious metal markings are somewhat laxer. For a fuller quide on how to identify silver hallmarks |
